OVERVIEW: Teens ages 12-17 will select either the CAST or CREW track for camp, where they will take the lead to bring the play DIME STORE DINOS from script to stage. With the help of industry professionals, students will work collaboratively, learning acting techniques and staging, technical design, stage management, and much more.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION: A comedy by Lori Coughlin, Dime Store Dinos focuses on embracing one's unique self to overcome diversity. The play centers around a group of plastic dinosaurs who are lost in a parking lot and must find their way home. Dodging obstacles, such as speeding cars, barking dogs, and the treacherous "terror" grackles, the dinosaurs learn new things about themselves and each other.
CAST TRACK: Teens interested in being part of the cast should prepare a short comedic monologue, no more than a minute, which they will use for auditions on the first day of camp. Everyone who selects the cast track will be performing in all three productions. Students in the cast track will learn staging and directing, movement, acting techniques, and more.
CREW TRACK: Teens interested in being part of the crew will work with award-winning designers to bring Dime Store Dinos to life. From stage management to marketing, students will get hands-on training in various technical areas, including design and fabrication. These include costume design and fabrication, scenic design and fabrication, sound design and soundboard operation, lighting, front of house management, graphic design and marketing, and much more. Students who select the crew track will be assigned job duties for all three productions.
